Berlin CC are the 2010 German national club champions. Following their commanding victory on Sunday in the final against Olympia Frankfurt at Körnerplatz in Berlin, BCC are now able to boast of the club's first national title in it's 25 year history.
Electing to bat on a bright and sunny day, captain Reuben Davies combined well with Aaron Mato to secure a decent platform for the team after some early wickets. When Davies lost his wicket the total was over a hundred, but there was still plenty of work to be done. Mato continued to dominate the bowling - as he has all season - while Adam Wood and André Leslie then combined well to take the score over 200. In the end, BCC were all out for 221.
In response Olympia Frankfurt came out firing, scoring four runs from the first ball. But Davies again made crucial breakthroughs to dismiss the top order and soon the Frankfurters were under pressure and falling behind the run rate. Despite some missed chances in the field, the hosts regained momentum through some crucial wickets for Amer Rafiq and Luke Buchanan. Volker Ellerbeck cleaned up the tail - ending with two wickets in two balls.
In the end the winning margin of over 100 runs was perhaps a little flattering. Olympia Frankfurt were strong opponents, who showed great discipline in the field. We thank them, and the representatives from the DCB and BCK, for making the day such a success.
